For Australia’s premier gymnastics event, I was given a brief that matched the significance of the competition: a unique medal design featuring a substantial cut-out.
I wanted a medal that not only reflected the brief but showcased the importance and weight of a national title.
The result is an impossible circle — its fluidity and grace reflecting that of a gymnasts’ movements. I employed bevels to achieve this so-called impossible shape, balancing out the negative space with a generous profile and weighty feel.
